Over the 30 years in this industry, I have worked on some amazing projects, but have had some ideas that I have craved as an artist to create and share with the world. Here is where I will grow that body of work. I hope that you will take a look and enjoy what you will find as it will be diverse.
Our Story
Kris Thornton is a passionate and multifaceted photographer whose work spans commercial, editorial, lifestyle, product, sports, and theatrical photography. His journey began in high school, capturing candid moments for the yearbook and developing a sharp eye for sports and portraiture. That early passion led him to Southern California, where college studies deepened his understanding of composition, light, film, and landscape photography.
Over the next decade, Kris pursued every opportunity to grow—learning under his uncle and mentor, immersing himself in books and workshops, assisting on professional sets, and interning alongside established photographers. During this time, he gained hands-on experience in commercial and advertising photography, as well as fashion, editorial, product, and branding work.
Following his service in the United States Army, Kris returned to college to complete a Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in visual arts. He went on to become the primary theatrical photographer for multiple theater companies, capturing dance, musical productions, and dramatic performances. One of his images—an opening scene from Sweeney Todd—was published in Vogue Italia, marking a significant milestone that helped launch the next phase of his commercial career. Over the following years, he collaborated with respected photographers, designers, and models while continuing to refine and expand his creative voice.
Kris later opened Studio KT in Virginia, operating a full-service photography studio alongside a successful brick-and-mortar camera store. While the pandemic led to the closure of the retail space, the studio continued to serve clients and evolve. Soon after, Kris and his family returned to the Pacific Northwest—where his story first began.
Alongside Kris is his wife, Kim, who brings over 20 years of experience in government service. Her background in leadership, organization, and public service provides a strong operational foundation and a shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and community impact.
Now, in 2026, Kris and Kim are launching a new, large-scale studio in Washington—designed not just as a creative workspace, but as a hub for collaboration, education, and connection. Together, they offer a wide range of services including photography, videography, branding, and marketing, while also building out community-focused programs such as workshops, studio rentals, events, and gallery experiences.
This next chapter is about more than continuing a career—it’s about building something meaningful together. A space where creativity thrives, businesses grow, and the community comes together.
